VooDoo Larry Grobe's Kustoms By Year

A longtime fixture at the James Dean and Ducktail Run, VooDoo Larry Grobe is known for his extreme cus toms, attention to detail and craftsmanship, traditional pinstripping, and extreme flamethrowers.  Here's a look at Larry's ever-changing work and appearances at the James Dean and Ducktail Run throughout the years.

1999 - 1952 Olds "Something Else"

2000 - 1952 Olds "Rumble"

  The same 1952 Olds now peach in color with soft white Watson style scallops.  My favorite version of the his 1952 Olds. (Photo By www.PyroCars.com)

 

2001 - 1952 Olds

2002 - 1952 Olds "52 Pyro" or "VooDoo Man"

The Olds now becomes more extreme in its most notable version.. This version of the Olds was featured in Ol Skool Rodz Issue #1.

 

2003 - 1952 Olds "52 Pyro" or "VooDoo Man"

New extreme grill treatment, bumpers, and paintworkThe addition of more flames grace their rear quarter panels.  The Olds was shortly sold after this.

 

2004 - 53 Chevrolet "The VooDoo Kreeper"

 

Perhaps Larry's most famous custom, the "VooDoo Kreeper" received national media attention with its features in Ol Skool Rodz Issue #8 along with Wizzz Magazine Issue #1

 

2005 - 53 Chevrolet " The VooDoo Kreeper"

The "VooDoo Kreeper" again with the addition of the bat fink, new wheel covers, some mild touches, and hidden pin stripping throughout such as the Von Dutch flying eye ball.  The Kreeper was sold after this year.

 

2006 -  28 Dodge "VooDoo Diablo"

Another extreme custom/hot rod? made its Ducktail Run debut in 2006.  This radical 28 Dodge and Larry graced the cover of Ol Skool Rodz issue #19

 

2007 - 46 Ford "VooDoo Idol" Gene Winfield Tribute

This recently completed kustom done in tribute to Gene Winfield was inspired color wise after Winfield's "Jade Idol".  The beautiful green is painted in the classic "Winfield fade" as the green darkens down the body.  The odometer showed 35 miles and is still unfinished in several areas.  

 

2008 - 46 Ford "VooDoo Idol" Gene Winfield Tribute

 

The VooDoo Idol returned to the Ducktail Run in 2008 this time completed with a classic tuck and roll interior along with some other subtle cleanup touches such as the removal of the VooDoo Idol name from the trunk lid.  The VooDoo Idol was recently featured in several magazines with the most notable being CK Delux Issue #30.

 

2009 - 31 Model A"VooDoo Pyschosis"
